Joyce Ho holds a B.A. in InternationalRelations from the University of California and an M.A. in Studio Arts from theUniversity of Iowa. Since 2010, she has also expanded her practice intotheatrical writing and directing. Whether working with video, installation, painting, or performance, Ho explores how the body is shaped by everydayenvironments. Positioning herself as an observer, she documents gestures andobjects as they unfold over time, examining the relationship between socialbehaviors—such as consumption, service, and labor—and the physical materialityof everyday objects.Using simple, repetitive actions, she createssituations where ordinary spaces begin to reveal underlying structures. Throughthe deconstruction and repetition of fragmented slices of daily routines, sheconveys the intimacy of our lives while highlighting the sense of alienation wefeel between ourselves and reality. Simultaneously enveloping and confrontingthe audience, her practice turns everyday moments into landscapes and rituals, exposinghow human behavior is subtly conditioned and contained.
Ho has exhibited internationally, including: Stay Connected: supplying the globe, Art and China since 2008, Tai Kwun, Hongkong (2026); Vera, Joyce Ho Solo exhibition, ShanghART Gallery, Beijing (2025); Connecting Bodies: Asian Women Artists, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (2024), Counting: Joyce Ho Solo Exhibition, TKG+, Taipei, Taiwan (2023), NGV Triennial 2023, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (2023), HYPER DIGITAL FORCES, Borusan Contemporary, İstanbul (2023), SIFA 2023: SIFA 2023: The Anatomy of Performance - Some People, The Arts House, Civic District, Singapore (2023), Phantasmapolis: Asian Art Biennial, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung (2021); Why Art Matters: Gallery Children's Biennale 2021, National Gallery Singapore, Singapore (2021); We Do Not Dream Alone: Asia Society Triennial, Asia Society Museum, New York (2021); Noire Lumière, How Art Museum, Shanghai (2020); Yokohama Triennale: Afterglow, Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama (2020); Meditations in an Emergency, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2020); OzAsia Festival, Artspace Gallery, Adelaide Festival Centre, Adelaide (2019); NO ON: Joyce Ho Solo Exhibition, TKG+, Taipei (2019); 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane (2018); Inhabiting the World, Busan Biennale, Busan Museum of Art, Busan (2014); and Everyday Life: Asian Art Biennale, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung (2013).
